As the middle laces will be facing pretty much directly towards the viewer the curve in their shapes will not be visible.Īn easy way to help insure the shoe laces fit into the quarter and have even spacing is to first draw the ones on the sides, next the one in the middle and then the two in between these. Draw the laces on the sides with a bit of a curve to them and draw the ones between them petty much straight. Step 6 – Draw the Laces Shoe laces drawingįinally add the shoe laces as shown above. Step 5 – Draw the Tongue Shoe tongue drawingįor this simple step add the tongue sticking out from between the two sides of the quarter. You can also draw the inwards facing side of the heel. Behind it add the far side of the shoe which will be facing towards the viewer with it’s inner end. Step 4 – Draw the Inner Side Shoe inner side drawingįor this step first outline the upper part of the quarter in the front. With these you should have the basic design of the shoe. Outline the toe cap and the quarter (area around the shoe laces and opening) as shown in the example. Step 3 – Draw the Toe Cap & Quarter Shoe design drawing You can erase little bits of the drawing as needed when adding it. You will also want to pay attention to the various angles and curves. For example the length of the heel compared to the rest of the shoe, etc… This means things like the overall width and height as well as the size of the different parts of the shoe compared to one another. The goal here is to get the correct proportions as well as the general flow of it’s shape. This should basically be it’s simplified silhouette (without any of the smaller details). Step 1 – Make a Basic Outline Drawing of the Shoe Shoe outline drawingīegin with a simple outline of the the shoe. Perspective Drawing Tutorial for Beginnersīe sure to start the tutorial in pencil and make light lines as you will need to erase small parts of the drawing in some of the steps. Generally you will not see this type of view when a shoe is being worn but instead if you are looking at it more directly such as one on display at a store or when holding one it in your hands. SHOE EASY CONTOUR DRAWING HOW TOWe practiced, trying to improve that. This tutorial shows how to draw a dress shoe from the side view in nine steps with detailed illustrated examples for each of them.Īs mentioned, in this example the shoe will be drawn from the side and also a just a bit below the “eye level”. Our biggest struggle was that our hands were drawn much to wide. Most measured the distance between knuckles well. Then we looked a bit closer to see if we did anything well. They couldn't wait to show each other! At first glance everyone giggled. Then, students held their other hand out in front of them and attempted to draw it. Next, we poked our pencils through the middle ("X" marks the spot!) and used it as a "tent" over our drawing hand. This isn't easy! To ensure that no one was cheating, we folded a piece of copy paper into 4 boxes. It's good for the students to see that I struggle too. In my first demo attempt, the drawing of my hand was much too wide, but the length of my fingers and the spacing between where my fingers bend was pretty good! We critiqued my drawing together and students gave me advice on what I needed to improve, so I tried it again with a bit more success, talking to them about my thoughts during the process so they'd know better how to approach the challenge when it was there turn. We talked about tracing your hand and all the little details with your eyes and moving your pencil as if they were synced. The purpose is to train your eye to measure spaces and to be synced with your hand as you draw. It's just as tricky as it sounds, and there was a lot of giggling! Blind drawings are done without looking at your paper, so they're really wobbly and strange looking. After comparing and contrasting the various types of lines (outline vs contour, continous vs blind contour), we practiced continuous blind contour drawing.
